Airports and airplanes are full of germs that we cannot keep away?!
Do you think that the plane will be cleaned thoroughly before passengers boarding the flight?
You are wrong if you think so.
Research has revealed the six most unhygienic spots on a plane – the toilet flush button and bathroom stall locks are ranked fourth and sixth respectively. Surprisingly, the tray table which we often use when eating or resting took the number one spot as the most unhygienic surface.
As the toilet is a well-known bacterial hotbed, cleaning staff often clean it more frequently and thus it’s relatively clean. However, tray tables are more easily overlooked as there is not enough time for thorough cleaning between flights.
So, if you want to use the tray table to eat for meal, to work or rest; please remember to clean it beforehand. The research recommends us to carry disinfectant wipes for cleaning the armrests, monitor and magazines on a plane.
Hand hygiene is important but what to do when you can’t get access to soap and water?
It’s best to carry an alcohol based hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes which can kill 99.9% of germs. While especially important before eating, this is also useful for taking public transports like planes. Clean your hands with a hand sanitizer for 20 to 30 seconds. The cleaning is complete once your hands are dry.
